Helping Children with Bullying

Words that grownups dread to hear…
that your child is being bullied, feels bullied or is in fact doing the bullying.

Bullying is when someone is being hurt either by repeated words or actions.

Bullying can take many forms and result in low self esteem and confidence, affect performance at school, withdrawal, anxiety, rage and anger. It is is hard for grownups to see children in pain or distress and this may in turn cause anger and anxiety for you.

Every child has a right to be and feel safe.

How do you support a child with bullying?

A good first step with bullying is to address the source of the bullying.

Your child needs to know that they are believed and that they will be listened to and that action will be taken against the bully – justice and fairness is important to children and you see this in children from an early age.

If bullying is happening in school working in partnership with your school to find a buddy or peer mentor that your child can talk to during the day if they are feeling vulnerable, can provide a safe space for children.

 Confidence Coaching

Our 1-2-1 confidence coaching sessions have helped many children to build resilience and confidence in themselves and given them tools to cope with being bullied. We help children believe in themselves again.

Couple feeling confident with supportive grownups and finding spaces they feel safe in can be transformational.

Children carrying out bullying will in most cases have a reason or trigger for behaviour which we can also help address and support. Children are often unkind when they don’t feel grounded or safe in their own skin – we can teach children the skills to have inner self belief, understand and express a range of emotions and develop empathy for others.

Hearing the words a child is being bullied or that your child is bullying are not nice to hear; we can support your child. Contact us to find out more how we can help.
