We ran (a very wet) Family Wellbeing session in partnership with the Canal & River Trust, and what a joy it was—even in the rain!
A huge thank you to all the families who braved the weather to join us at Westport Lake in Stoke-on-Trent. Running these sessions always brings us so many glimmers (tiny moments of joy), but a few moments really stood out this time. Including:
- A robin that stopped by the workshop and brought joy to those around it.
- A Dad smiling seeing how much his son enjoyed the session, even in the rain.
- A Granny taking her time and loving doing the mud painting, seeing her have such joy in something so simple.
Here are some glimmers from the families that joined us:

It was a beautiful reminder that being in nature with family is an incredibly powerful and FREE way of building connections and creating core memories that last a lifetime.
The best part? This is something we can all do, no matter where we are. Canals are amazing nature spaces available in even the most urbans of places in the UK.

If you’re looking for a free, grounding activity to do with your family, you can now experience our Self-Led Family Wellbeing Trail at Westport Lake.
I actually took my own family along the route when we were surveying it, and we absolutely loved it. It’s a fantastic way to slow down and explore the lakeside together.
