Inspiring Wellbeing Through Real-Life Stories

To maximise the reach and impact of our wellbeing program, we partnered with two exceptional individuals to jointly deliver engaging Confidence Masterclasses:

Amy Truesdale MBE (Multi-Gold Medal Winning Para-Athlete): Amy inspired approximately 425 learners from Year 10, Sixth Form, and SEN groups with her remarkable story of resilience and success, emphasizing the importance of mental and physical wellbeing.

Both Carl and Amy received comprehensive training from us to be able to effectively integrate alongside us in the Masterclass. The masterclasses covered key concepts such as:

  • Mindful Breathing
  • Understanding Confidence
  • Body Awareness
  • Setting Goals and Visualizing Success
  • Positive Self-Talk (Inner Coach)
  • The Power of Smiling
  • Hydration
  • Recognising and Appreciating “Glimmers” (Tiny Moments of Joy)

Amy Truesdale’s presence had a powerful inspirational effect on learners, particularly in terms of resilience and overcoming challenges.

Amy also delivered smaller, adapted sessions for SEN learners from the NEST. These learners, who often find it challenging to participate outside of the NEST, engaged enthusiastically. The flexible sessions included discussions on confidence, Amy’s story of resilience, Taekwondo demonstrations, and an opportunity to handle her gold medal.

SEN support staff noted the significant impact of Amy’s visit, with learners who typically remained within the NEST even during lunch actively participating. Amy’s story of overcoming adversity resonated deeply with these learners, who often face daily challenges.

Teacher Feedback: “It has just been so lovely to see kids come into the hall and get involved who would not leave the classroom. It has been amazing to get them in here and in a different learning environment.”

Conclusion:

The Celebrity Confidence Masterclasses delivered a significant and positive impact on West Coventry Academy. By leveraging the inspiring real-life stories and relatable experiences of these successful athletes, the program effectively engaged a large number of learners (circa. 1115) across various year groups and support needs. The masterclasses successfully disseminated practical wellbeing tools, demonstrated the attainability of success through personal narratives, and fostered a more positive and engaging school environment. Furthermore, the program has shown promising signs of initiating long-term wellbeing practices, contributing to positive behavioural changes, and increasing awareness around specific wellbeing aspects like hydration.
